I recently read an article in the Dallas Morning News about Eric Leuliette's Books Read website. His site inspired me to compile and webify my own list.
This is a reasonably accurate list of the books and authors I have read since the mid-1950's.
In earlier years I read a lot of science fiction. Since the mid-80's I've read a preponderence of mysteries, especially private-eye and spy novels.
I also collect and read a lot of baseball fiction.
For the most part I haven't included text books (mostly because I don't remember what they were).
I know there are a lot of missing titles due to gaps in my memory.
I started keeping totals of the books I read in 1985, but didn't start keeping a list of the actual books until 1988.
I've included a few books in the numbers that I know I read but can't remember the title and/or author. If anyone recognizes these books, please let me know.
I also went back and added numerous books that I read to my boy that I hadn't put on my lists, so I don't know the exact year. I've put them in 1990-1999.
At one time I had over 5,000 books in my personal library, but I've trimmed it way down due to space.
I've color-coded my lists - red titles indicate my favorite books. green authors indicate my favorite authors. Or you can just take a quick look at my favorites. I've really enjoyed pretty much everything I've ever read by them. For some series like Spenser and Nameless I've colored all the titles red. I love the series and would probably have to go back and reread all of them to pick out which one I liked the best.
Many thanks to Eric Leuliette for sharing his search script and basic web format!
